About

My name is Serena Saba and I am originally from Dana Point, CA, but I have been living in Portland, OR for the last 4 years. In 2019, I graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR with a B.A. in Psychology with an emphasis in Neuroscience. After I graduated, I went to a local community college to finish up some pre-req courses (A&P, Microbiology, and Medical Terminology) since I had not taken them within my Psychology major. Once I finished the courses in March of 2020 (right before the pandemic), I applied to only one school, my top pick, WVU! I interviewed in April (via zoom), found out in July that I was accepted, and without even visiting the school or stepping foot into Morgantown, I enrolled! I drove across the country with my partner, 2 cats, and a tiny uhaul trailer in tow. In my class of 16 students, I am the farthest from home, by far, and the only student from the West Coast. It’s such a different experience for me that when I go to bed, all my friends/family are just starting to eat dinner!
I want this blog to be an open space for me to answer questions about this program and the daily life (and struggle) of being a PA student. There are multiple reasons that I decided to do this blog because I think most of my classmates would agree, “WHY in the world would you want to put extra work on your already full plate?” Hear me out! To graduate from the program, you need to complete 50 hours of community service…WELL, if you are the blogger for your class, your 50 hours are DONE-ZO. But also (and more importantly), this is going to be the way I process everything that is going on, remember why I am working toward this awesome career, and try and look at the bright side of things when I have 6 exams in a week (yes, this is actually happening). On reddit, I made a post on the path assist page in regards to this blog asking anyone and everyone to ask questions and give me stuff to write about. Feel free to add onto this list or comment down below with information you would like me to answer. I figured everyone who is on the path assist page or looking up WVU PA understands and knows what the main duties of a PA are, but I can also answer that if you just stumbled upon this blog!
DISCLAIMER: I am definitely not a writer, unless I am dictating a specimen 😉

Wash your hands and stay (virtually) 6 feet away from me!

Serena
